CSA Prevention Training for Child Care Professional: Stewards of Children

Principal Investigator: Alyssa A. Rheingold, Ph.D. <bio sketch>  < e-mail>
Funding Source:  Center for Disease Control (CDC)
Dates of Project:  9/06 - 8/09

The overall goals of this project are to:

  1. Evaluate in a controlled experimental study the impact of Darkness to Light's Stewards of Children on child care professionals' primary and secondary prevention efforts including changes in knowledge, attitudes, and report of behavior over time related to prevention of CSA.
  2. Evaluate and compare the different effects of mode of presentation (i.e., via web or in person) of the Stewards of Children Program.

Additional exploratory aims are to:

  1. Examine how individual characteristics (e.g., personal history of exposure to sexual assault, ethnicity, gender, job position, previous training, perceptions about CSA) may influence the effectiveness of the program.
  2. Given the sensitive nature of the topic, examine how well the intervention will be tolerated by participants, as measured by participant satisfaction questionnaires.
  3. Examine organizational change (e.g., implementation of thorough background checks, establishment of policies procedures that address primary prevention) that may occur with employees attending a CSA prevention workshop.
